Now symbian phones have different product codes and these products codes are divided by regions. Firmware updates to your phone are sent depending on your region and product code. Phone market is global, you can buy your phone from store next to you or thru internet from any location in the world. Everything is okay if your native language is English. But if you want to have for e.g. lithuanian, russian, romanian, polish or other laguages, you have to tweak your phone and change product code, or to bring it to service center (remember that warranty isn't global and you will have to pay for this service). In service center they will add only required language file (it's separate file, called language pack). Everything is okay with system to have different product codes and regions, but it would be very convenient to have possibility to choose which language to add when you update you phone with Nokia Software Updater (NSU). Main points of this idea: I can buy phone from anywhere in the world, but I can't do it because phone menu won't have my language pre-installed. It's possible to change product code and update firmware with required language, but it's also best way to loose warranty. Bring phone to service center and they will add required language file. But you need to pay for this and after firmware update this language file will be gone, so you have to repeat the procedure. Symbian has all possibilities to add this function to NSU, that you could choose preferred language to be installed with firmware.

It's difficult to evaluate this idea, when your native language is English and it's in all firmware updates. But when you speking russian, lithuanian, polish ant etc. it's quite difficult to buy phone abroad and have extra expenses for language installation.
