This idea is an outgrowth of some continued thinking of the idea Spigit Concept via Nokia's Mobile Web Server which was posted many months ago. Essentially, guide the user into creating an OpenID that is tied to (1) the SIM, (2) the IMEI of the device, and (3) some 3rd party service. The MWS's presence page would serve as the landing and basic ID page. Then the user's OpenID subdomain (username.openid.net or openid.net/username) would become a DNS entry that also resolves to the Presence page, validaties the user on any site, and this opens the means for using IP-based transications beyond the browser. This would be a more personal option for many users of mobile devices; and could ignite the creation of web-based applications which live on the mobile device, but are authenticated from other servers - for example, MWS has a bank web app for managing finances. User can utilize the web app via a widget (mobile-centric use) or browser (full MWS app), but can elect to connect and authenticate their "account book" to the bank's data. Give an option to sync and use the OpenID account, which is verified on the device/SIM/passkey level and sync/reconcile data. This takes some of the data load off of the 3rd party, embeds security into the mobile users' lifestyle, and pushes applications more into the web space. *Just a note that I am trying to pull this off (see my blog post); but, am running into some configuration issues and have opened this idea/conversation also at Forum Nokia in the hope of figuring this out as I think its an ideal application for a mobile web server and the idea that mobiles which are constantly connected can do more than just be passive web participants. *EDIT/ADD: A MWS OpenID page would then look something like what I have here - where there are icons which show which sites you are using your OpenID (these would be configurable within your security settings for that MWS page). There would also be some hCard/vCard functionality on that page which would allow persons to connect directly with you via the OpenID and the MWS's abiltiy to serve device content with RSS and REST APIs.

Since the Mobile Web Server concept - at least as its being hosted by Nokia - is being ended at the end of this month, maybe this idea would be able to take root with the following pieces added to the mobile web server:
Instead of having an entire PIM/CMS - leaving the MWS with the calendar, messaging, and presence pieces - with the presence essentially becoming the OpenID landing page.

I Love this piece on software! When I discovered it, I changed the whole way I work and am using this program now quite heavily on a day to day basis!
It is sad that the guys at nokia are giving it away, but I too FULLY support the suggestion above that we be able to continue to use the totally mobile-hosted web server - Being able to use a tool such as DynDns or my own Domain name and control over that to be pointed directly to the mobile would be a great way for us to still be able to use this great software.
PLEASE do not let this program die altogether as "hosting" from a mobile device like this is a very important breakthrough and function for an industry who is primary interest is receiving content and not serving content.
